POOL SAFETY INFORMATION

STATISTICS FOR SWIMMING POOL ACCIDENTS

When it comes to pools, nothing is more important than safety. Some basic statistics from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

  • Drowning is the leading cause of death for children 1-4
  • Every year in recent years, almost 400 children have died from drowning
  • 3/4 of those children who died were under 5
  • 2/3 of those children who died were between 1-3
  • Over 40% of drowning deaths occur in the home, while only 18% occur in public places

From the above statistics it can easily be seen that safety in the home pool is a serious matter. This is why we at Safetech Hardware work exclusively to create, develop, test and implement revolutionary gate and fence hardware for the market. Our mission is to create safe pools in every home using our state of the art locks, hinges and self-closing latches, so that everyone who uses them can do so in comfort and happiness without experiencing tragedy.

KEEPING YOUR CHILDREN SAFE IN ALL SWIMMING POOLS

Apart from home pools, where the owner is primarily responsible for pool safety, when your children are visiting pools elsewhere it is also your responsibility to make sure they are in a safe place. If at a friend or family member’s home with a pool, make sure that the owner has installed security locks and fences to prevent children from using the pool unsupervised. Make sure that your children are going to be supervised if they are using the pool; but even if they are, it is still ultimately your responsibility. Keep in mind that a significant portion of all child pool deaths occur at own home, so this statistically means your children are less at risk at a family member or friend’s pool (23%) or a neighbour’s pool (6%). This last statistic clears up an often seen misperception about pool safety – that children are at risk of drowning in a neighbour’s unsecured pool. This risk is very small. Additionally, very few children die in public pools and this is likely because these meet strict requirements set out by the governments and local jurisdictions and they are also heavily supervised.

FOCUS ON THE HOME

At Safetech Hardware we pride ourselves on the fact that we focus on the safety of pools in the home. This is where we feel the most attention is needed to develop solutions that are convenient, comfortable and safe as well as secure. Children should always be supervised when they are using a pool by adults who know CPR and are good swimmers. Safety equipment such as paddle boards should also be available. But on top of all this, the safest way to secure your pool is to install hinges, locks and self-closing latches – this is where we come in!

WHAT WE DO SPECIFICALLY

Safetech can help you specifically for those times when the pool simply cannot be supervised. Hinges, latches, locks and many other security and safety features are created from concept to reality by our team of highly skilled and qualified engineers so that your pool is the safest ever using the latest technologies.

DID YOU KNOW THAT

  • If you stay within arm’s reach of children at all times in and around the pool, you can greatly minimise the chance of an accidental drowning death; most children who drown do so in only a few seconds because they were able to get through a fence or a gate unsupervised.
  • If you are supervising a group of children, you can assign one of them to be a “Water Watcher” for a certain period of time; children take turns doing this and it helps them appreciate and learn more about security, making your pool an even safer place! Also teach your children about the locks and to keep the gate closed at all times.
  • If you never take your eyes off infants or young children, you greatly reduce the chances of something tragic happening at the pool.
  • If you work with Safetech directly, we can evaluate your area to see if it meets the safety standards in your neighbourhood as well as recommended worldwide standards (at least 4-foot high fence and self-closing or self-latching gates).
  • If you take out professionally supervised swimming lessons for your children instead of “letting them learn naturally at home”, you greatly reduce the chances of accidents.
  • If you install a pool or gate alarm, you will never have to worry about children getting into the pool unsupervised without you knowing about it instantly
  • If you learn CPR, you greatly increase the survival chance of a child who has passed out from water inhalation.
